Scottish Fire and Rescue Service - Malicious Call Outs
Dear Parent/Carer
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been given intelligence raising concerns about a possible social media craze that may be sweeping across in Dundee schools but may spread across Tayside. On receipt of this information we sent the undernoted communication to schools.
"It has come to light that social chat groups are goading other groups from other schools across the city to maliciously set off the fire alarms in a bid to become the weekly winner of number of turn outs they can have on our service. The Scottish Fire and Rescue has seen an increase lately of the number of turn outs to local schools to which I am sure you all will agree is not an acceptable action. Not only in the disruption to schools but to the delivery of our service to the communities of Dundee.”
Schools have been asked to address this issue and if necessary will arrange for their Local Fire Officer to come into the school to reinforce the message that this behaviour is completely unacceptable and will be treated very seriously.
The Children and Families Service is seeking your assistance by asking you to discuss this with your children and advise them that anyone identified as participating will be reported to Police Scotland.
