XPLORE Dundee Potential Industrial Action
As you may be aware, there is likely to be a period of industrial action by the Unite Union affecting all Xplore Dundee bus services from Monday 12th June 2023 for at least a two-week period.
This industrial action will impact on the public transport network throughout the City, and Xplore Dundee are planning to run a Sunday timetable on certain routes until there is a resolution. For a full list of the running timetables, you should visit the Xplore Dundee website.
Xplore Dundee have advised the Children and Families Service (CFS) that dedicated School Bus routes 4s, 5s, 6s, 10s, 14s, 17s, and 18s will not operate during this period. The Children and Families Service is currently exploring if it might be possible to cover these dedicated school bus routes and will provide a further update to the appropriate schools. Given the uncertainty about the bus services that will be provided, it would be sensible for those pupils that use buses to prepare alternative travel arrangements.
Walking Distance
Pupils who live within a reasonable distance of the school should be encouraged to walk or cycle to school where at all possible.
Public Transport
Where services ARE running each day, plan your route to and from school. With limited numbers of buses, the journeys that do operate may become overcrowded at peak times (school start and finish times). You should consider the timing of your journey and your route carefully.
Stagecoach and Moffat & Williamson services are unaffected by this Industrial Action and will continue with their full timetables.
Parental Contract
For those school aged pupils who live more than three miles from their home school, we would ask, where possible, that parents/carers/family use their own vehicles for transporting children and young people to school. We may be able to offer reimbursement for the mileage and you should email gill.ward@dundeecity.gov.uk or call 07947 351823 for information on how to do this.
It is still the responsibility of Parents/Carers to ensure their children make it safely to school on a daily basis. However, if you live more than three miles from your home school and are unable to effectively plan how to travel during the proposed strike action, you should contact school/guidance staff and update them as soon as possible.
The potential industrial action by Xplore Dundee will not affect the transport arrangements already in place for those pupils with Additional Support Needs and travel will continue as usual.
