Senior Citizens Christmas Concert

S5 Hospitality pupils alongside the Music Department served tea and put on a concert for the senior citizens of Broughty Ferry to celebrate Christmas.

Around 100 pensioners from across the area attended the event.

S5 hospitality pupils managed to successfully serve everyone with a cup of tea or coffee and many homemade Christmas treats.

Well done to ALL involved!

S4 Christmas Cakes

Not to be outdone by the S3 classes, Mrs MacLeans S4 class produced their take on Christmas cakes using a sponge filling rather than fruit.  Well done!

S3 Christmas Cakes

S3 tried something new with Miss Kelly this year and made a rich fruit cake, covered with marzipan then iced and decorated their cakes.  The cakes turned out to be a huge success and looked fabulous.  Close ups of the cakes can be found in the gallery.

Young Chef Competition 2014

Congratulations to our three entrants who took part in this years Young Chef Competition through the Abertay Rotary Club.  Jamie Cox (S2)  Nathan Graham (S5) and Cameron Lamb (S6) produced three very high quality meals within their £15 budget making the judges final decision a very difficult one.

Well done Nathan on getting through to the next part of the competition and we wish you the best of luck at the Regional heats!

 

Grove's Winning Scone goes on Sale

Well done to Katherine Flack (S2) who's winning scone is on sale in Jessies Kitchen this week as their Scone of the Week!

 

Pupils and Pensioners Celebrate

S4 Hospitality pupils alongside the Music Department served tea and put on a concert for the senior citizens of Broughty Ferry to celebrate the centenary of the town being incorporated into Dundee City. 

Around 110 pensioners from across the area attended the event which was well above the expected number of 40!!

Despite the unexpectedly large numbers, S4 hospitality pupils managed to successfully serve everyone sandwiches, cakes with a cup of tea and coffee.

Well done to ALL involved!

Cluster IDL project.

Groves Computing and Home Economics departments along with Forthill's 7B class produced a fabric and computerised quilt to celebrate a hundred years of trading in Broughty Ferry. The quilt has been taken to various events including the Senior Citizens Afternoon Teas here at Grove.

Jampionships

Grove had 7 entries for this international competition. Various flavours, including strawberry and tropical fruit were all tested by the RMPS department. Although we didn't win a lot of fun was had by pupils and staff. Some imaginative flavours were produced by our S3 pupils.

Dundee Food and Flower Show

Dundee Food and Flower Show took place on the 7th September 2013. Grove had three entries and Bethany Younger won runner up with her Highland Cow cup cake.

The Great Scone Challenge

The Great Scone Challenge

Well done to Katherine Flack (S2) for coming 2nd having created an amazing savoury scone -  Feta Cheese, Olive and Sundried Tomato Scones.

Katherine had a great afternoon  at the college with pupils from across Dundee creating her scones and left with a £10 voucher and a goody bag for coming 2nd.

4th Year Intermediate 1 Hospitality Practical Cookery

A huge well done to the 4th Year Intermediate 1 Hospitality Practical Cookery class at Grove Academy for passing their Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate. 

 

This was an additional qualification the pupils set out to achieve during the course and all 17 in the class were successful in gaining the award. 

This qualification will enable them all to gain employment in the food industry.
