Welcome to Grove Academy
Grove Academy is 125 years old in September 2014. Throughout its 125 year history, Grove Academy has grown from strength to strength. From an initial start of 3 teachers and 100 pupils, ranging in age from 5 to 15 years, the school has steadily expanded and developed. This has required, frequent building programmes to accommodate change such as extensions to the Victorian buildings, temporary cabins, temporary huts, separate extensions, extensions on extensions. Finally we are all together in a brand new purpose-built building which can accommodate up to 1310 pupils.
This outstanding physical landmark for our community can be seen from afar in Fife and from the Tay Road Bridge approaching Dundee. Local sailors now use the red drum as a ‘waypoint’ to establish their position on the river. Standing side by side, as they do, on either side of Camperdown Street, the contrast between the original Victorian buildings and the much larger 21st Century iconic building could not be more marked.
We now have a modern learning environment well equipped for the demands of a 21st century curriculum. It houses ‘state of the art’ science laboratories, high technology workshops, a well resourced library, art and music facilities which cater from the traditional to the digital and classrooms where technology is used to enhance sound teaching and learning. The comprehensive PE facilities include a games hall, two fullsized gymnasia, a fitness room and a 25 metre swimming pool. Providing excellent facilities for use outwith school hours the building is set to become a focal point for the community.
