Here to Help

At Grove Academy, supporting our learners is a shared responsibility. We want every learner to feel included, valued and supported to be their best, and we recognise that there are times when learners and families may need additional advice, support or someone to talk to.

Your learner’s Principal Teacher of Guidance (PTG) should normally be your first point of contact. Our Guidance Team can help with, or help you access support for:

  • Wellbeing and emotional health – if your learner is worried, struggling or needs someone to talk to.

  • Attendance and presence – including concerns about attendance, punctuality, engagement or barriers that are making it difficult for your learner to be present and participate fully in school. See our Presence Policy for further information.

  • Friendships and relationships – including concerns about bullying, discrimination, peer relationships or difficulties with others. Further information can be found in our Relationships, Inclusive Practice and Anti-Bullying information.

  • Learning and progress – if you have concerns about your learner’s progress, engagement, organisation or experience in school. You can also find further information about learning and teaching across the school in our Learning & Curriculum pages.

  • Additional support – helping to identify appropriate support and working with our Support for Learning team and other staff where required. Further information is available in our Support for Learning and Additional Support Needs section.

  • Changes at home or in family circumstances – where something happening outside school may be affecting your learner.

  • Financial or practical difficulties – including concerns about the cost of uniform, trips, activities, equipment or other aspects of school life. Your learner’s PTG can help you access appropriate support.

  • Course choices, transitions and next steps – including decisions about subjects, progression and planning for life beyond school. Further information is available in our Course Choice section.

  • Child protection or safeguarding concerns – if you are concerned that a learner may be at risk of harm, please see our Child Protection & Safeguarding page for information about how to report a concern.

  • Accessing other support – helping learners and families connect with appropriate school, Dundee City Council or partner services.

  • Anything else you are concerned about – if you are unsure who can help, your learner’s PTG is a good place to start.
