Child Protection & Safeguarding

At Grove Academy, the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person is a priority. All members of staff have a responsibility to be alert to concerns about a young person’s welfare or safety and to act in accordance with Dundee City Council and national child protection procedures.

If you are concerned about a child or young person, or believe that they may be at risk of harm, report your concern immediately. Concerns should be passed to one of Grove Academy’s Designated Child Protection Officers (DCPOs), who are identified on the poster below.

Young people can speak to any trusted member of staff if they are worried about themselves or someone else. Staff will listen, take concerns seriously and ensure that the concern is passed to the appropriate person.

If a child or young person is at immediate risk of harm, call 999.

Grove Academy works with families, Dundee City Council Children and Families Service and partner agencies to support and protect children and young people.

Prevent Duty

As part of our commitment to safeguarding, Grove Academy has a responsibility under the Prevent Duty to help protect children and young people from radicalisation and extremist influences. Prevent is about safeguarding and early support, ensuring that young people are safe from people or groups who may try to encourage hatred, violence or harmful ideologies.

We recognise that children and young people may be vulnerable to a range of influences, both online and offline. Staff are trained to identify concerns and to respond appropriately, in line with Dundee City Council and national safeguarding procedures.

The aim of Prevent is not to criminalise young people or restrict discussion of different viewpoints. Instead, it is about supporting those who may be vulnerable and ensuring they receive the right help at the right time.

If you are concerned that a child or young person may be at risk from harmful influences, exploitation, radicalisation or extremist views, please speak to a member of staff or contact one of our Designated Child Protection Officers (DCPOs). All concerns will be taken seriously and dealt with sensitively through our safeguarding procedures.
